Hospital CEOs Testify Before Senate Select PPACA Committee

The Senate Select Committee on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) heard from hospital chief executive officers who advocated for the extension of Medicaid coverage under PPACA.  FHA would like to thank Gwen MacKenzie, president and CEO of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System; Mark O'Bryant, CEO of Tallahassee Memorial Health Care; and Steve Purves, CEO of Munroe Regional Medical Center for their compelling testimony regarding the importance of extending health care coverage to a million or more uninsured Floridians.

Representatives from Georgetown University, The Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy, The Foundation for Government Accountability and the Maine Department of Health and Human Resources also made presentations to the committee.

Hospital testimony focused on the improvements in health status for covered individuals, hospital Medicare cuts of $10 billion over the next 10 years and the Florida Remedy, the statewide initiative in favor of extending coverage to uninsured Floridians through PPACA.

Deliberations will continue next week with the House Select PPACA Committee hearing testimony from hospital executives from around the state.
