Workers Compensation Fees
House Bill 1351 by Representative Stone (R-Ocala) passed the House Insurance Subcommittee. The bill reduces inpatient and outpatient payments to hospitals by changing the existing reimbursement structure to 140 percent of the Medicare prospective payment system. FHA testified in opposition to the bill, citing no issues with the current workers' compensation rate structure. Current rates are 56 percent below rates in 2003, and increased less than 1 percent in the past year. FHA also stated that this bill would cut hospitals payments by $200 million, in addition to $12 billion in Medicare payment cuts to hospitals under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. House Bill 1351 will be referred to two additional committees in the House. The Senate companion, Senate Bill 1580, has not been heard.
