2000 Legislative Changes related to "Palliative Care"
The Legislature passed SB 1890. The bill extends to all hospital personnel the authority to withhold cardiopulmonary resuscitation based on an EMS do-not-resuscitate order (DNRO). Patients or their surrogates are to be given information on pain management or palliative care. The bill also clarifies requirements regarding the authority of a physician to issue a DNRO and revises continuing education requirements to provide an option for courses in end-of-life and palliative care. An 18-member work group, including FHA, is established to continue study of end-of-life issues.
