The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) was enacted as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Although the primary function of this legislation includes over 17 billion in incentive payments for hospitals and other eligible providers, this act includes major changes to the existing rules and regulations protecting privacy and security of patient data, including important change to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). As Risk Management professionals, there are several changes coming that impact healthcare organizations that will be important to understand moving forward. This presentation will cover how one healthcare organization is tackling these changes and preparing for their organization for the inevitable.
