Based on results of various studies and other insights, Dr. Peter Buerhaus will discuss the consequences of imposing mandatory hospital nurse staffing regulations. He will describe how mandatory staffing regulations are likely to weaken the political, social, professional, economic, and organizational standing of the nursing profession, and suggest alternative strategies to address nurse staffing concerns and thereby avoid the negative consequences of using a regulatory approach to nurse staffing.
