Hospitals Encouraged to Join PSO Florida

The Patient Safety Organization of Florida (PSOFlorida) is in its fourth year of operation as a federally certified PSO. While over 75 hospitals in Florida have voluntarily experienced PSOs, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has PSO requirements starting Jan. 1, 2015. A hospital can only participate in a Health Insurance Marketplace exchange if the hospital has a Patient Safety Evaluation System found in the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act.

PSOFlorida can help hospitals establish their Patient Safety Evaluation System. PSOFlorida works with the ECRI Institute to provide expert patient safety analysis to member hospitals under federal confidentiality protections that supersede Florida law, including Amendment 7. PSOFlorida is able to collect the information from a wide variety of hospitals, analyze it, and provide feedback to each facility to prevent future mistakes.
