New Executive Actions to Combat Antibiotic Resistance

Last week, the White House released an Executive Order and National Strategy for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria. At the same time, the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology has also released its report. The Executive Order establishes a Secretary-level Task Force for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria, to be chaired by the Secretaries of HHS, Defense and Agriculture, tasked with submitting a five-year action plan to implement the strategy. It also establishes a Presidential Advisory Committee of non-governmental experts.
