AHCA E-PLUS System as a Hospital Evacuation Tool
The goal, when evacuating patients due to disaster, is to execute a seamless, expedited transition between facilities. Transferring necessary and critical medical records is part of that transition but can be problematic. While the use of health information exchange can support a solution, receiving facilities may not use the same EMR as the sending facility or may not be connected to the eHealth Exchange, a national network which enables clinical record exchange between providers, hospitals, and federal agencies. E-PLUS is a potential solution to this issue as the receiving facility can use the system to retrieve medical records from the sending facility. In addition, E-PLUS can support hospital efforts when internal systems may not be available.
Objectives:
- Understand how E-PLUS operates within the State and nationally
- Understand how national exchanges support the exchange of clinical records
- Understand how E-PLUS can support the exchange of records when patients are being evacuated
