Service Awards Celebrate Contributions of Leaders to Florida Health Systems
Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) honored two exceptional hospital leaders this week for their contributions to quality care in the Sunshine State. Dr. Christina Canody, of St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Tampa and the medical director of pediatrics for BayCare Health System, was recognized as FHA’s 2024 Caregiver of the Year, and Tim Curtin, Executive Director of Community Services for Memorial Healthcare System in Broward County, was named FHA’s 2024 Health Care Leader of the Year. The awards were presented during special events at the recipients’ respective hospitals.
FHA is the leading voice for health care in the state of Florida. Through advocacy, education and informational services, FHA supports more than 240 hospitals and health care systems in their efforts to provide the highest-quality care to their patients.

The Caregiver of the Year Award honors an individual who provides outstanding patient-care services and exemplifies a commitment to quality patient care. FHA’s 2024 Caregiver of the Year Award recipient is: Dr. Christina Canody, MD, FAAP
Dr. Canody is described as a compassionate, innovative and community-focused physician. As a pediatrician at Tampa’s St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and the medical director of pediatrics for BayCare Health System, she is renowned for her comprehensive approach to pediatric care, addressing the physical and mental health care needs of her patients. She was the driving force behind bringing the On Our Sleeves Movement for Children’s Mental Health to BayCare and West Central Florida. On Our Sleeves aims to break the stigma around children’s mental health, provide resources and support, and encourage honest conversations about mental wellness. Her vital role in developing a pediatric residency program within BayCare will ensure residents become extraordinary pediatricians. Dr. Canody’s contributions to improving the health and wellness of her patients have made a meaningful impact on the lives of countless children and their families.

The Health Care Leader of the Year Award recognizes a hospital or health system leader who contributes significantly to the community's health by providing leadership and guidance to the hospital or system. FHA’s 2024 Health Care Leader of the Year Award recipient is: Timothy “Tim” G. Curtin, MBA, MSW, CAP
Tim Curtin is recognized as a driven leader and an unwavering advocate for addressing the social health needs of children, families and seniors in Broward County to make the greatest impact on their physical health and well-being. Since joining the Memorial Healthcare System in 1999 to design and lead community engagement programs and health initiatives, he has grown the Community Services Division from a five-person department to 325 team members. Under his leadership and in collaboration with its community partners, Memorial now serves 25,000 patients and families annually through initiatives that address food insecurity, senior isolation, juvenile diversion and crime prevention, maternal health, chronic disease conditions, mental health, and other social determinants of health. Thanks to Mr. Curtin’s contributions, Memorial Healthcare has supported more than 486,500 youth, families and seniors through various grant-funded programs.
